FCL shipments explained
FCL (Full Container Load) means the organic consignment has the container to itself, loaded at origin and delivered sealed. It gives the most control over the cargo environment and handling, and it is the usual choice for volumes that justify a full container.
Container inspection
With FCL the shipper controls what goes into the container, so the container should be inspected before loading and confirmed clean, dry, odour-free and structurally sound, with the condition recorded. This is the same discipline covered in palletisation and container stuffing.
Verified Gross Mass (VGM)
Under the SOLAS rules, the verified gross mass of a packed container must be provided to the carrier before it is loaded on board. Confirm how the VGM is determined and submitted for the shipment so the container is not held.
Loading discipline
A controlled load is counted, patterned for stability, photographed and sealed, with the seal number recorded on the documents. Good loading discipline protects the goods and produces the records that support a claim if needed.
