TraceNet and Organic Export Traceability from India

How the TraceNet system supports organic export traceability from India, covering operator and certification-body records, transaction certificates and forward and backward traceability.

Growsian Agro coordinates TraceNet traceability within a documented export supply programme. For each order, the relevant product, operator, lot, evidence and destination requirements are aligned before dispatch.

TraceNet is APEDA’s electronic traceability service for organic export certification under NPOP. It captures forward and backward traceability and quality-assurance data entered by operators and certification bodies.

The TraceNet system

TraceNet is APEDA’s electronic system for NPOP organic certification and export traceability. It holds certification, production, processing and transaction data entered by certification bodies and certified operators, and it underpins the issue of transaction certificates for organic export consignments from India.

Operator and certification-body records

Certified operators and their certification bodies record scope, production, processing and sale data in the system. Because the certification body is involved in issuing and endorsing records, the data reflects the certified chain rather than an operator’s unverified self-declaration. Confirm that the operator and products you are contracting for are the ones reflected in the records.

Transaction certificates

For a consignment, a transaction certificate ties the specific sale — products, quantities, lots and parties — to the certified operator and scope. It is consignment-specific and complements, but does not replace, the operator’s scope certificate.

Forward and backward traceability

TraceNet supports forward tracing (from a certified input to the customers it was sold to) and backward tracing (from a shipment back to its certified source). This helps confirm that a shipped quantity is consistent with what was certified, produced and processed.

Mass balance is a check, not a guarantee

Traceability and mass-balance reconciliation are reasonableness checks: they help expose impossible quantities, duplicate claims or unexplained stock movement. They do not replace physical segregation, cleaning and on-site inspection controls at the operator. For lot-level controls, see lot traceability.
